SIFA 2022 is Back: New Face and What to Expect

After a long awaited moment, SIFA (Singapore International Festival of Arts) has finally released their new theme ‘The Anatomy of Performance – Ritual’ which will also be the repetitive theme throughout 2022 to 2024. This international art festival will be held from May 20th until June 5th 2022 and will be focused on how performances and creations entail both real-life and digital platforms.

Nailing a huge amount of admiration on their first opening two weeks ago, SIFA 2022 managed to unite fashion, traditional Malay percussion, and Indian classical dance into a spectacular sneak peek for the upcoming programmes. This year, SIFA established three different programmes which each contained its own unique characteristics.

Creation allows every form of art to everlastingly exist from involving abundant cultures to an upgraded cinema with glorious orchestral music. Life Profusion allows people to explore and utilize a whole new dimension of virtual platform to behold new creative ideas and create a wide artists’ network across the world. SIFA X will highlight a wilder range of performances by multidisciplinary artists. 

In order to embody the new theme, SIFA aims to make every performance rely heavily on philosophies, beliefs, values, and perspectives that adhere to various cultural treasures. Natalie Hennedige, as the newly appointed festival director, learns to understand the current issues in society by dividing every perspective into numerous artistic values and cultural backgrounds.

SIFA 2022: The Anatomy of Performance – Ritual gathers within individual creations, a range of artistic disciplines and perspectives, inviting practitioners of vivid cultural hues, from different walks of life to embrace a blending of genres, artistic practices and internationality, to imagine the possibilities of performance made by exploring and expanding notions of Ritual in varied, unexpected and nuanced dimensions. My sincere wish is that during the span of SIFA 2022, we might all, in precious fleeting moments, be moved by the beauty, power and generosity of art.”
