Fighting Gender Inequality, These 5 Male Celebrities Are Proud to be Feminists

It’s no longer a secret that you don’t have to be a female to be a feminist. Feminism knows no gender boundary when it actually does, in the end, talk about getting equal rights and opportunities for all genders. Speaking of being a feminist, the film industry is not spared from the values and ideas of feminism. Producers, directors, let alone actresses and actors are altogether using the privilege of their influence and huge platform to vocalize the issue of gender inequality.

In these past few years, along with the massive exchange of ideas and news through social media, the film industry has rapidly mimicked the concern in society to fulfill people’s demand. And as you probably can tell, every story that raises the struggle to fight gender inequality always gets people’s attention at bay. Thanks to actors and actresses that live their real life through the portrayal of characters, notable people are now become more aware about the issue that seems to be in a never-ending loop.

Combining talent, hotness, manner, and brain, BookMyShow managed to embrace five male celebrities that are known to be feminists and recognized for being loud about gender inequality.

1. Chris Evans

A hero in movies, a hero in real life. Evans is a fan of the #MeToo movement as he constantly tries to enrich himself by filling his gap of knowledge through a lot of feminist books. While some men have kept their mouth shut amid the matter of sexual abuse in film industry, he chooses to take some time before he voices out his opinion regarding the matter. “The hardest thing to reconcile is that just because you have good intentions, doesn’t mean it’s your time to have a voice,” as Evans said to The New York Times in March 2018. Wise choice, Capt!

2. Harry Styles

Teenage crush and probably forever crush, Harry Styles, seems to never keep his profile low when it comes to feminist actions. The ex-One Direction member always thinks that women are beings that keep our world going so there’s no point to make them feel lesser than they should be. In fact, he doesn’t think that he deserves a ton of credit for being a feminist. “Of course men and women should be equal. I don’t want a lot of credit for being a feminist. It’s pretty simple. I think the ideals of feminism are pretty straightforward”, as he said to Rolling Stone back in 2019.

3. Ryan Gosling

The La La Land actor pays tribute to women he grew up with that made him who he is right now. As a father of two beautiful daughters, Ryan Gosling says that he experiences some eye-opening facts right after he watches his daughters’ development overtime. Surrounded by women basically all his life, Gosling says that it’s time for men to admit that they are at the end of the branch as women are the future. “I think women are better than men. They are stronger, more evolved.”, as he told Evening Standard in 2016.

4. Ian Somerhalder

“Men need to acknowledge the evolution that comes along with embracing and championing the surge of powerful women worldwide. When we celebrate the true and irrefutable power of women, we can then truly celebrate the progress of men.” as the Vampire Diaries idol told She Knows in 2015. Ian describes that the patriarchal system needs a major shift as the evolution of women continues to grow. The shift in this case, means that men need to acknowledge that women can and will outdo men. Say no more, Mr. Cold-Blooded.

5. Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Standing applause goes out to this man as he’s a firm believer that, feminism should not even be a topic if everyone has the same opportunities and rights from the very first start. “There’s a long, long history of women suffering abuse, injustice and not having the same opportunities as men, and I think that’s been very detrimental to the human race as a whole. I’m a believer that if everyone has a fair chance to be what they want to be and do what they want to do, it’s better for everyone. It benefits society as a whole.”, as he said to The Daily Beast in 2014.

Celebrating this year International Women’s Day, we do believe that in the near future, many people are more enlightened to beat up the toxic culture of gender inequality. Happy International Women’s Day to great women and men!
