Happy Birthday, to the best social media platform! (according to some people)

Launched in 2006, Twitter is one of the most used social media platforms in the world. While many Twitter users are all familiar with how this application works, only a few know some interesting facts about Twitter.

And today, celebrating its 16th birthday, BookMyShow dedicated this post to spill everything about Twitter from the beginning! Keep reading to find out more!

1. There are 350.000 Tweets Posted Per Minute

According to internetlivestats.com, 350.000 tweets fly around on Twitter every minute and that’s equal to 500 million tweets are posted per day. Some people are such big talkers, don’t you think?

Even though you think that’s a lot to handle, try to beat Facebook where there are three million posts every minute.

2. Twitter is Not the Initial Name

Believe it or not, just like choosing the best name character in a game, Twitter was also experiencing a hard time to be known as it is right now. One of the co-founders, Evan Williams suggested “FriendStalker” as the name for this application, considering its purpose that allows people to stalk their friends and famous people out there.

However, Noah Glass, as another co-founder did his research and came across the name “Twitter” and the rest is history.

3. The First Hashtag Appeared in 2007

Hashtags were created to help people from across the world connect to a certain theme or topic. The man in charge for the popularity of hashtags usage was Chris Messina. His revolutionary invention changed the way people interact with each other because hashtags are used by other social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat.

Instead of patented the idea all to himself, he chose to let all sides use hashtags to see how quick an idea or a topic can bring people together.

4. March 21st, 2006 Marked the Date of the First Tweet

One of Twitter’s co-founders, Jack Dorsey was the person who initiated the first tweet. Back then, the trend of the early 2000s influenced the way people wrote everything online. The trend in removing vowels and shortening the word made the founders did the same thing as they referred “Twitter” to “twttr”.

Jack Dorsey posted the first tweet at 9:50 pm and it said, “just setting up my twttr.” For your information, Twitter was not for the public until July 15, 2006.

5. Larry is the Name of the Bird Logo

Do you know that the bird you see as Twitter’s logo right now actually has a name? Larry was a little bit low-key about his identity since it hadn’t been confirmed from the beginning of Twitter’s existence. In 2012 then, the manager of Twitter, Ryan Sarver had confirmed its name.

So, what do you think? Is it shocking to know some interesting facts about Twitter? Despite the background story of this application, Twitter remains one of the best social media platforms for people to speak up their minds and interact with people with the same, or even not the same interest.
