Broken-Hearted Shawn Mendes Released a New Single

The heart-break anthem is not over yet, for Shawn.

Continuing the theme of his single that was released last December, I’ll Be Okay, Shawn Mendes just released another new song titled When You’re Gone. This song is allegedly, or maybe we can say almost for sure, dedicated to her ex Camilla Cabello. Since they broke up in November 2021, both Shawn and Camilla have explicitly expressed how they felt for each other post-break-up.

In his new song, Shawn shows us what’s to learn after the break-up. Regardless of letting go, the feeling of loss still remains strong, as it said in the lyrics, “You never know how good you have it, oh/Until you’re starin’ at a picture of the only girl that matters, aah.” Shawn is feeling nostalgic for the good times and how in split seconds it turns like hell. He explains in the song, that the urge to do old habits is so hard to lose, like when you want to call up that special someone, but you realized things are not going as the way they used to be.

The song is perfected by the slow tempo of the guitar-back and Shawn’s signature low but powerful voice. The tempo goes faster as it reaches the chorus, which shows Shawn’s eagerness to hold on and to stay sane after the break-up.

“Hold on/I don’t wanna know what it’s like when you’re gone/I don’t wanna move on/I don’t wanna know what it’s like when you’re gone for good,” he sings desperately in the chorus, allegedly to refer the recent split of his two-year relationship with Camila Cabello. “You’re slipping through my fingertips/A little bit, by a little bit/I didn’t know that loving you was the happiest I’ve ever been/So I’m just tryna hold on.”

Before his second post-breakup song, Camilla also had released her post-break-up song featuring the famous English singer, Ed Sheeran. Given a little bit different impression, Bam Bam shows that heartbreaks, goodbyes, and meetings are just part of life. “It is what it is” maybe the theme of Camilla’s post-breakup song.
