The ex-tennis star is expecting her first child with Alexander Gilkes!
Not only excel at serving on the tennis court, but Maria Sharapova is also good at serving a surprise. The former tennis superstar and her British businessman fiancé, Alexander Gilkes, publicized that she and Gilkes are expecting their first child together. The amazing announcement took the same time as her special day which was her 35th birthday.
Fans and pals immediately sent sweet messages in the comment section with a happy birthday and congratulated Sharapova and Gilkes on Sharapova’s pregnancy. The two of them were first seen out in public as a couple in 2018 and in December 2020, the former world number one tennis player happily confirmed her engagement to Gilkes.
Regarding her burning passion for tennis, she has no issue linking it to her pregnancy as she is already retired a long way even before Gilkes popped his lifetime question. After spending literally more than half of her life on the tennis court, she finally called it a quit. According to an interview with Vanity Fair in February 2022, she revealed that tennis keeps her going from day to day in her life. It’s not about only giving her life to tennis, but tennis gives her life in return.
“I’ll miss it every day,” she persisted. “I’ll miss the training and my daily routine: Waking up at dawn, lacing my left shoe before my right, and closing the court’s gate before I hit my first ball of the day. I’ll miss my team, my coaches. I’ll miss the moments sitting with my father on the practice court bench.” She thinks that it’s time to settle down and focus on family.
